One arrested with 14 gold bars in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM: Police arrested an alleged member of a gold smuggling gang with 14 gold bars from the city’s New Railway Station area on Friday night.

The arrestee is identified as Uttam Sen, 35, son of late Manik Sen of Mohajan Ghata of the city’s Patenga area.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station Mohammad Mohsin said they challenged Uttam for his suspicious movement in the New Rail Station area.

Later, a total of 14 gold bars weighing around 2.582 kilogram kept tactfully inside his pants were recovered, he said. The price of the gold bar would be around Tk 1.43 crore.

During interrogation, the arrestee admitted that he was carrying the gold to Dhaka from Chattogram and one Sanjit Dhar, 38, handed over the bars to him, said the OC.

A case was filed at the police station in this connection.
