Row over Bangabandhu’s sculpture: Punishment for Faizul, Mamunul demanded

Muktijuddha Mancha staged a protest in the capital’s Shahbagh on Saturday, demanding punishment for Mufti Syed Mohammad Faizul Karim, senior naib-e-amir of the Islami Andolon Bangladesh, and Mamunul Haque, acting secretary general of the Bangladesh Khilafat Majlish, for threatening to throw Bangabandhu’s sculpture into the Buriganga.

 Leaders and activists of different units of the organisation, a platform of the descendents of the freedom fighters, blocked the Shahbagh intersection at around 4:00pm.

The movement of vehicles was disrupted during the blockade. They also set up a temporary stage on a truck to deliver addresses.

It’s President Aminul Islam Bulbul, General Secretary Al Mamun, DU unit President Sonet Mahmud and other leaders were present at the protest.
