Dengue cases cross 500 in Nov

29 more hospitalised in 24 hrs

The total number of dengue cases has already reached 507 in the current month until Saturday throughout the country as 29 new dengue patients were hospitalised in the last 24 hours.

According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the total number of dengue patients has reached 1,134 this year.

The DGHS said 26 patients have been admitted to different hospitals in the capital while three were hospitalised outside the capital on the same day.

At present, 88 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in different hospitals across the country.

Of them, 72 patients are being treated in 41 government and private hospitals in the capital while 16 are being treated in hospitals outside the capital.

Three confirmed dengue-related deaths have been reported this year.

Reports of six dengue-related deaths have been sent to the IEDCR, which has so far reviewed four cases.

According to official figures, 101,354 dengue cases and 179 deaths were recorded in Bangladesh last year.

Dengue fever was first reported in Bangladesh in 2000 and it claimed 93 lives. In three years, the fatality number almost fell to zero.

However, the mosquito-borne viral infection struck again in 2018, killing 26, and infecting 10,148 people.
