Women’s Federation Cup handball starts today

The first edition of Walton Women Federation Cup Handball Competition 2020, one of the events of Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF) ogranised to celebrate Mujib Barsho, will begin at Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in the capital today.

The Daily Sun Enamul Hoque Chowdhury Editor will formally inaugurate the meet as chief guest while Walton Group Executive Director (Games and Sports) FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Dawn will be present there as special guest. BHF vice-president Golam Habib will preside over the inaugural program.

After the inaugural program, Jamalpur Sports Academy will take on Naogaon District Sports Association (DSA) in the opening match.

BHF General Secretary Asaduzzaman Kohinoor on Friday told The Daily Sun that they are arranging the meet under strict health measures provided by the government.

“We will maintain proper social distancing and will follow all the health measures mandated by the government. The participating teams, players, coaches, tournament officials, referees and fans have to follow these health measures,” he added.

A total of eight teams, split into three groups, will take part in the 8-day meet. Group A comprises of Police, Ansar and VDP, Faridpur DSA and Handball Training Center Dhaka while Group B comprises Jamalpur Sports Academy, Naogaon DSA, Jessore DSA and Tetulia Upazila Sports Association.

Top two teams from each group will reach semi-finals on December 1 and December 2 while the third-place decider and final will be held on December 3 and December 5 respectively, all at the same venue. The champions will be awarded Tk 15,000, the runners-up team will get Tk 10,000 and the third-placed team will earn Tk 5,000. Sponsors Walton Group will provide jerseys to the participating teams.
