Rohingya couple held with Tk 11.7m, yaba in Ctg

Chattogram: Mem-bers of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a Rohingya couple with Tk 11,701,500 and 5,300 pieces of yaba tablets from the city’s Chandgaon area on Sunday.

 The arrestees were identified as Md Shawkat Islam, 32, and his wife Morzina, 28, hailed from Myanmar.

 They used to stay in different areas including Chattogram to run their drug trade.

Assistant Director (AD-Media) Md Mashkur Rahman of Rab-7 said on information, they conducted a drive at a residence of Chandgaon Residential Area on Sunday.

They arrested the couple and recovered the cash and yaba tablets from their possession, he said.

Sensing presence of the elite crime busters, the duo tried to throw away the money through window of the residence, said the AD.

In primary interrogation, the arrestees admitted that they had been collecting the Yaba pills from Myanmar and supplying to different parts of the country, Mamun said.

The arrestees and seized drugs were handed over to the concerned Chandgaon police station for legal action.
