Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two people including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police on charges of possessing yaba tablets in the capital’s Gendaria area on Sunday night.

The striking team also recovered 148 yaba pills from their possession.

The arrestees are Md Aziz, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Jatrabari police station, and Md Razzak, whome RAB suspects to be a police informant. Later, RAB handed over the men to Gandaria Police Station.

Gandaria Police Station Officer-in Charge (OC) Md Saju Mia said that a case was filed under Narcotics Control Act 1990.

RAB recovered 100 yaba tablets from Aziz and 48 tablets from Razzak, he added.

Recently, another police sub-inspector and his associate were also caught red-handed with 11,600 yaba tablets while selling in the capital’s Mohamamdpur area.

Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mohammadpur Police Station, said, "We had information that these syndicates are involved in yaba smuggling and selling in the area after brining it from Cox’s Bazar district.”
