Zaker Party leader strangled

MYMENSINGH:  A union leader of Zaker Party was strangled allegedly by his rivals in front of his family members in Gouripur upazila of the district on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Motaleb, 60, of Bhalukapur village under Sohonahati union.

Zaker Party’s Sohonahati union president Abdul Munnaf said Motaleb was an activist of his party and union unit’s publication secretary.

The victim’s wife Anwara Khatun alleged that his husband and neighbours Khokon, Chan Mia and Suruj Ali had a land-related dispute.

The miscreants kept confined Motaleb’s two sons and strangled him in front of his wife and daughters this morning, alleged one of the victim’s sons Jewel Mia.

Gouripur police OC Borhan Uddin Khan confirmed the matter.

He said three people have been detained in this connection.
