The Dhaka University (DU) authorities has decided to cut public holidays for the 2020-21 academic year to compensate students for the loss of education due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The decision came from a syndicate meeting of the university held on Thursday with Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.

According to the decision, the upcoming winter holidays will be 7 days instead of 17 days and summer holidays will be 20 days instead of 40 days.

Besides, considering the situation arising out of Covid-19, students have been given a 50pc waiver of development fees for the 2019-20 session.
