Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday said that BNP is a political party with a ‘broken waist’.

“Leaders of their own party are saying that BNP is now a party with a broken waist. Due to distrust on their top leadership, senior leaders are now becoming inactive in politics,” he said.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said this while addressing a discussion on the 8th Five-Year Plan via videoconferencing from his official residence on parliament premises in the capital.

The minister said that AL has never hatched any conspiracies against anyone; rather they have fallen victim to conspiracies.

“AL is tirelessly working for the development of the country. The country is marching towards a prosperous future as the government led by Sheikh Hasina believes in democracy,” he said.

Talking about discipline on roads, Quader said discipline is yet to restore.

“It should be given priority. The government is working to bring back discipline, but road crash is the main challenge,” he said. The minister said that over 450 kilometres of highways have been upgraded to four lanes across the country in the last 12 years.
