Govt to procure 8 lakh tonnes Aman rice

The government will procure a total of 6 lakh tonnes of boiled rice, 50,000 tonnes non-boiled rice and 2 lakh tonnes paddy during the current Aman season.

The government has set the target at an inter-ministerial meeting of Food Planning and Monitoring Committee (FPMC) at a virtual meeting on Wednesday.

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder said they will buy 2 lakh tonnes of paddy from marginal farmers and local market at Tk 26 per Kg, 6 lakh tonnes of boiled rice at Tk 37 per Kg and 50 thousand tones non-boiled rice at Tk 36 per Kg.

He said paddy procurement will start from November 7, boiled and per-boiled rice procurement will start from November 15 and the procurement will continue till February 28.

During the Last Aman season, the government has targeted to buy 6 lakh tonnes of paddy at Tk 26 per kg, and 3.5 lakh tonnes of milled rice at Tk 36 per kg and 50,000 tonnes non-boiled rice at Tk 35 per kg.

To give fair prices to marginal farmers the government procures rice but it started to procure paddy along with rice from last year Aman season. 

Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzaque, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief State Minister Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman MP and other officials also joined the meeting, presided over by Food secretary Dr. Mosammat Nazmanara Khanum.
