Unidentified miscreants poured poisoned into two ponds, destroying fishes worth Tk15 lakh in Paikra village of Atrai upazila in Naogaon district on Sunday night.

Police and locals said Paikra Motsojibi Samity took out a lease on the ponds in the village for farming fish.

The samity (organisation) president Sreepad Prang said they have planned to catch all the fishes for sale.

But prior to their preparation, they found dead fishes were floating on the surface of water in the ponds on Monday morning.

The extent of loss could go up to Tk 15 lakh, he claimed.

Officer-in-Charge of Atrai Police Station Molla Moslem Uddin said the miscreants might have poured poison into the ponds  as they could not take lease on it.
