Workshop on stroke held in DMCH

Department of Neurosurgery, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), arranged a participatory workshop on the hospital premises on Sunday for the journalists to let them know about the in-depth concepts of stroke and its proper treatment.

Prof Dr Kanak Kanti Barua, Vice-Chancellor of BSMMU, addressed the seminar as the chief guest while Brig Gen Md Nazmul Haque, Director of DMCH, and Prof Dr Asit Chandra Sarker, Head of Neurosurgery department of DMCH, were also present.

Referring to a recent study, speakers in the workshop said stroke is the second leading cause of death worldwide and the first of disability.

They also said that DMCH has provided an opportunity for the neurological patients by opening a Neuro-Cath lab that has started its journey from July 16 this year at the Department of Neurosurgery of the hospital.

It may be mentioned that a recent study by World Stroke Organisation indicates last 40 years stroke incidence fallen to 42 % in high income countries due to their improved food habits and regulated lifestyle, but it increased 100 % in middle and low income countries. Another study says approximately 20 million people worldwide are attacked to stroke every year.
