Tk 18.2m death compensation given to RMG workers

The ministry of labour and employment has distributed a total Tk 18.2 million death compensation from the central workers’ welfare fund to the families of 91 workers who have died.  

All the beneficiary garment workers were from various garment factories under Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), says a press release.

State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Mannujan Sufian handed over the cheque to the BGMEA representative at the 13th board meeting of the central fund on Sunday. The board also approved financial assistance of Tk 2.5million from emergency account of the central fund for the payment of arrear salary and allowances of workers of a closed garment factory.

Ministry of Labour and Employment Secretary KM Abdus Salam, Director General of Central Fund Md Amir Hossain, secretary of BGMEA Commodore Mohammad Abdur Razzak, President of Bangladesh National Garment Workers Employees League Sirajul Islam, among others, were also present at the event.
