‘Relocate SSTU’

Lawmaker Pir Fazlur Rahman on Sunday demanded that the government relocate the proposed Sunamganj Science and Technology University (SSTU) to the district headquarters from Shantiganj.    

Education Minister Dipu Moni placed the ‘Sunamganj Science and Technology University Bill 2020’ in the parliament on September 7. Shantiganj of the district is the proposed place for establishing the university to spread the light of education among haor people equally.

Addressing a rally in Traffic point of the district town on Sunday, Jatiya Party (JaPa) whip Pir Fazlur Rahman said he smells a rat in establishing the university in an area of Shantiganj, depriving people of the district headquarters.

The lawmaker urged the government to relocate the university to district headquarters to ensure equal benefits of the haor people as Prime Minister dreamt.

Haor Andolon leader Abu Sufian, Sunamganj Governoment College former vice-president Saiful Islam Samsu, former panel mayor Monir Uddin Monir, Swechhasebak League district unit general secretary Jubery Ahmed Apu and JaPa leader Abdur Rashid and human rights activist Fazlul Haque, among others, were present on the occasion.
