‘Increase women’s participation in e-commerce’

Asking policy makers to ensure a business-friendly environment for women entrepreneurs, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Saturday said e-commerce sector will have to develop online payment and tax structure to increase participation of women in electronic trading system. 

Addressing a virtual meeting as the chief guest, the Speaker mentioned that the women entrepreneurs are running business in a competitive and complex environment which is not acceptable.

Women and Ecommerce Forum, a platform of women entrepreneurs, organised the summit virtually to share knowledge on latest innovation and development in the sector.

Shirin Sharmin said women entrepreneurs are engaged in business with their savings made personally as there are many obstacles in socio-economy level, including lack of access to finance.

She also asked the authorities concerned to allocate space for women entrepreneurs in soft condition at 100 economic zones implemented by Prime Minister Sheik Hasina.

State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Bangladesh High Commissioner in United Kingdom Saida Muna Tasneem, Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Vikram K Doraiswami, SBK Tech Venture founder Sonia Bashir Kabir and WE Forum President Nasima Akter Nisha, among others, spoke on the occasion.
