The National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh started its journey in 1978 under the initiative of Abdul Malik, a pioneer cardiologist in the country, with a number of doctors and social workers of other professions.

Over the last 42 years, the foundation has spread its activities in the field of treatment, prevention, research and training of manpower for cardiovascular diseases. A 480-bed modern cardiac hospital (National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Institute) has been established with the support of government of Bangladesh and other organisations and individuals.

This hospital has been providing modern cardiac care at an affordable price and has become one of the high-volume centres of the region. It may be mentioned that from March 1999 to August 2020, a total of 177,964 cathlab procedures and 32,863 cardiac operations were performed in the hospital.
