President, PM greet Daily Sun

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have greeted the Daily Sun, a media outlet of Bashundhara Group, on the occasion of its 10th founding anniversary.

In separate messages, the President and the Prime Minister extended felicitations to the management, journalists, readers and patrons of the Daily Sun and wished continued success of the English daily.

They hope that the daily, imbued with the spirit of liberation war, will uphold the country’s Constitution and contribute to the promotion of its culture, heritage and ongoing development ventures for turning Bangladesh a developed and prosperous country by 2041.

The Daily Sun this year has dedicated the auspicious occasion to the greatest Bangalee of all time Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, marking his birth centenary.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan has also given a message, greeting the Daily Sun on the occasion of the founding anniversary of the newspaper.

The Daily Sun, a new generation English daily, started its journey on October 24 in 2010 with the slogan, ‘True and impartial’ and earned huge popularity at home and abroad.

In his message, the President said, “I am very happy to know that the Daily Sun is stepping into the 11th year of its publication on October 24. On this auspicious occasion, I would like to congratulate the management, newsmen, contributors, readers, patrons and distributors of the newspaper.”    

“I sincerely hope that the Daily Sun, imbued with the spirit of the war of liberation, will continue its advancement, keeping the national interests above. I wish the daily its continued success,” he added.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina congratulated the Daily Sun family and its readers for stepping into the 11th year of publication of the English daily.

“I hope that the Daily Sun will continue to uphold and spread the spirit of our liberation war and contribute to the promotion of our culture, heritage and ongoing development ventures for building a developed an prosperous Bangladesh as dreamt by the Father of the Nation,” she said.

“I am happy to know that the occasion has been dedicated to greatest Bangalee of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, marking his birth centenary,” she added.

In his message, Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said, “I am happy to see that the Daily Sun, one of the country’s leading dailies, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. I personally take it also as my birthday because I feel that I’m a family member of the publication. Congratulations to all with the Daily Sun!”

He said English newspapers have many challenges in Bangladesh, mainly due to its narrow leadership with a number of publications competing to get a slice of the same cake.

“But I feel proud that the Daily Sun has made a place in this competitive market with many exclusive news reports, editorials and commentaries which throw light on important national issues,” he added.

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said once the Daily Sun was a dream, then a reality and now it is struggling to achieve a mission---a Golden Bengal with its people living in harmony and peace.

Daily Sun Editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury also greeted all concerned, including the readers, journalists, advertisers, patrons, employees and well-wishers on the occasion of the founding anniversary of the English daily.
