32 fishermen jailed for netting hilsa despite ban

BHOLA: Thirty-two fisher-men in Tazumuddin upazila were sentenced to one year in jail and fined for catching fish during the ongoing fishing ban.

Among the 32, 18 were sentenced to one year in jail, and 11 were fined Tk 11,500 while three minor boys were released.

They were detained from in different points of the Meghna River while catching hilsa.

The Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and executive magistrate Yousuf Hasan handed down the judgement conducting a mobile court.

During the drive, around 30,000 metres current net and 50 kilograms of mother hilsa were seized.
