CHITTAGONG: Two separate cases were filed against a reporter and an anchor of an investigative programme of Jamuna Television on charge of broadcasting ‘wrong information’ defaming Awami League (AL) Publicity Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud and a NGO.
On behalf of Dr Hasan Mahmud, also the former forest and environment minister, his personal secretary Enayetur Rahman filed a case with the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate-1 Kudrat-e-Elahi on Monday.
Another case against the accused was filed with the same court under ICT act by General Secretary Md Salauddin of ‘Sukhi Bangla Foundation’ – a non-government organisation.
The accused are the television’s ‘Investigation 360 Degree’ programme reporter Sajjad Parvez and anchor Mir Ahsan.
The court summoned the accused in the defamation case and ordered Rangunia Police Station to record the case under ICT act as FIR, said the plaintiff’s lawyer Nikhil Kumar Nath.
The plaintiff Anayetur Rahim said the 21-minute programme aired on June 5 said that Sheikh Russel Aviary Park in Rangunia was constructed at a cost of Tk 35 crore from climate change fund. “Allegation of embezzling money without work was also brought against Hassan Mahmud,” alleged the plaintiff.
Actually the money came from revenue sector, not climate change fund. An Indian contractor implemented the project after getting it through international tender, he said.
No comment of the project director or Hassan Mahmud was broadcasted in the programme, said Enayetur.
Allegation of embezzling money of climate change fund was also brought against 10 NGOs, including ‘Sukhi Bangla Foundation’ in the programme.
