KCC mayor for raising social awareness to stop rape

Khulna Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque on Saturday stressed the need for raising massive awareness to stop rape in the society, reports BSS.

“The government has injected the death sentence in the relevant law to clear its stance with zero tolerance against the rapists,” he said while inaugurating anti-rape rally at 29 ward councilor’s in the city on Saturday.

As part of the countrywide anti-rape rallies by the Police, Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) organized the rally in the city.

The rally was held at 10.00 am simultaneously at 52 bit policing under eight police stations of KMP by maintaining health safety guidelines and social distancing, said a KMP press release.

KMP commissioner Md Masudur Rahman Bhuiyan presided over the function while city unit awami League General Secretary MDA Babul Rana, among others, addressed.

Public representatives, teachers, imams of mosques, women leaders and leaders of different professional bodies participated in it.

Terming the rapists as beasts as they exhibit their inhuman nature, he said, adding that the rapists were awarded capital punishment in Tangail as government amended the law.

Later, Khulna mayor inaugurated the programme with releasing balloons.
