‘975 women raped in 9 months’

At least 975 women have been raped across the country in the last nine months from January to September, said an Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) report.

The report was disclosed on Thursday when rape incidents are reportedly increasing in the country despite government measures to put rapists behind bars.

It said 762 women have been raped, 208 gang-raped, 43 killed after being raped and 12 victims committed suicide.

At least 161 women have been victims of sexual assault while three women and nine men killed for their protests against the assault incidents during the period.

Apart from this, 216 have been killed in “crossfire” and police custody across the country in the last nine months, the report said.

At least 168 women have been victims of torture for dowry while 11 domestic helps killed and 32 others tortured.

The report mentioned that 1,078 children have become victims of different kinds of violence, 445 have been killed and 627 children have fallen victim to rape across the country during the period.

Apart from this, one journalist has been killed while 209 others have become victims of torture and harassments in the last nine months, the ASK report said.

The ASK has prepared the statistical report based on information from nine daily newspapers, online news portals and its own sources.
