5.33 lakh children to be fed ‘Vitamin A capsule’ in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM: Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has planned to feed ‘Vitamin A capsule’ to 533,500 children ageing from six to 59 months from October 4 to 17. 

 CCC Chief Health Officer Dr Selim Akter Chowdhury said this at a press conference held at the seminar room of CCC General Hospital on Wednesday.

Dr Selim said necessary preparations have been taken to organise the event at all the 41 wards of the city smoothly.

The CCC Administrator Mohammed Khorshed Alam Sujon will inaugurate the programme on Sunday, he said.

The programme will run from 8.00am to 4.00pm every day, said the chief health officer.

Each of 4.52 lakh children ageing 12 months to 59 months will be fed one red vitamin capsule while 81,500 children ageing six to 11 months one green capsule, he said.

Awareness for breast feeding to the infants till six months of age will be publicised during the campaign. The mothers will also be informed to provide homemade balanced diet to the babies after they complete their age of six months, he added.

Among others, CCC Health Officer Dr Mohammad Ali, Zonal Medical Officers Dr Tapan Kumar Chakrobarty, Dr Md Imam Hossain Rana, Dr Hasan Murad Chowdhury, Dr Rafiqul Islam, Dr Jewel Mahajan, Dr Akil Md Nafe and Dr Suman Talukder were also present at the press conference.

Mentionable, CCC achieved 98.4 per cent success in feeding the capsule during the ‘National Vitamin A plus campaign’ on January 11 this year.
