RAJSHAHI: A total of 306 low-income families of the city got new brick-built houses under community housing project, reports BSS.
They had moved to their new houses, which they constructed with support from Community Housing Development Fund (CHDF) with supervision of their respective Community Development Committee (CDC) initiated by Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC).Earlier, each of the beneficiaries having land but they were not given loan worth Taka two lakh for the house building purposes.
City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton revealed this while visiting some of the newly built houses at different areas of the city Sunday saying the city corporation will provide more housing support for the less-income families aimed at improving their living and livelihood condition through ensuring their habitats.
He said that proper housing for people living in urban poverty had become a prerequisite to achieve sustainable development goals (SDG-11), and ensure planned urbanisation and continued economic progress of the city.
Liton said that the city corporation has taken initiatives to build more affordable houses by adopting a need-based coordinated plan to tackle the growing housing crisis.
The city corporation has been implementing Livelihoods Improvement of Urban Poor Communities (LIUPC) project in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme in order to achieve long-term sustainable growth by eradicating urban poverty and achieving Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
