Bangladesh fail to secure slot in top 10

Bangladesh chess players failed to rank in the top ten of Joytu Sheikh Hasina International Online Chess Tournament ended on Saturday.

Indonessian GM Megaranto Susanto finished 1st, Indian GM SL Narayanan 2nd and Iranian GM M Amin Tabatabaei 3rd securing 7 points each after the nine and final round of the meet.

Among others, Vietnamese GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son ended 4th, Indian GM Diptayan Ghosh 5th, Indian GM D Gukesh 6th, Indian GM RR Laxman 7th, Filipino GM John Paul Gomez 8th securing 6.5 points each while Indonessian IM Novendra Priasmoro ended 9th and Indian GM Surya Shekhar Ganguly 10th securing 6 points each.  

Bangladesh’s FM Subrota Biswas finished the highest 12th slot securing 6 points on the last day of the competition. GM Enamul Hossain Razib and Reefat Bin-Sattar finished 17th and 21st securing 5.5 points each while GM Ziaur Rahman finished 22nd securing 5 points.

The competition was jointly organized by South Asian Chess Council (SACC), Golden Sporting Chess Club and Canadian University of Bangladesh to mark the 74th birth anniversary of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

A total of 74 participants from 15 countries will take part in the three-day open tournament.
