The Gano Forum has finally split, creating a new faction excluding the party founder Dr Kamal Hossain.

The new faction has been formed under the leadership of the party’s executive presidents Subrata Chowdhury, Abu Sayeed and former general secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu.

And the other faction is led by the party president Dr Kamal Hossain and general secretary Dr Reza Kibria.

The new faction of Gano Forum at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club on Saturday ousted the party general secretary Dr Reza Kibria and decided to hold the party’s national council on December 26 next.

The decision was taken at an extended meeting of the party’s central committee convened by the new faction at the Jatiya Press Club.

However, Gano Forum president Dr Kamal Hossain and general secretary Dr Reza Kibria were not invited to the meeting.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, party executive president Abu Sayeed said their meeting has decided to hold Gano Forum’s national council on December 26 to make it a people-oriented stronger party.

He said they formed a 201-member preparatory committee, led by the party former general secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu, to hold the council.

Abu Sayeed further said their meeting also decided to expel the party general secretary Dr Reza Kibria, presidium members AOM Shafique Ullah, Advocate Mohsin Rashid and organising secretary Mostaque Ahmed for violating the party discipline and constitution and indulging in activities that go against the party interest and organisational unity.

They claimed that 283 leaders, including representatives from 52 districts, were present at the meeting.

Replying to a question whether Dr Kamal will remain with them or not, Mostafa Mohsin Montu said it will be decided at the party council.

Talking to daily sun, Dr Reza Kibria, however, said this meeting has no relation with Gano Forum since it was not convened by the party president and general secretary as per the party charter.

“They (leaders of the new faction of Gano Forum) have violated the party discipline. We will expel some leaders who are involved in this move. We will disclose the names of those expelled tomorrow (Sunday),” he said.

A close associate of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Dr Kamal Hossain founded Gano Forum in 1993, leaving Awami League.
