A total of 26 policemen of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) are going to lose their jobs as they were found positive in dope test.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam said they have started the process of dismissing the police personnel found positive in dope tests.

He said this after inaugurating the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Mirpur Traffic Division) on Saturday.

The DMP Commissioner said, “We did dope tests on suspected police members. Of them, 26 members have been found positive. The process of dismissal of 26 policemen has started.”

“Our belief is that if we can take action against them in this way, it will send a clear message to the rest that we will not spare anyone,” he said.

“As a result of our initiative, many have got better and come back from this road,” the DMP commissioner said.

He said police members who are involved in drugs or are collaborating with drug dealers are being arrested directly by filing cases against them.

There is no relaxation in this regard. He said action was being taken against a drug-addicted policeman in the same way as action was being taken against an ordinary drug dealer.

DMP Additional Commissioner of Police (CTTC) Md Monirul Islam, Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration) Mir Rezaul Alam, Additional Commissioner of Police (Intelligence) AKM Hafeez Akter and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
