The Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital launched a 40-bed state-of-the-art air-conditioned mortuary on Thursday for proper management of dead bodies.

Lawmaker Hafiz Ahmed Mazumder, Chairman of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, inaugurated the mortuary at a function in the hospital.

The hospital authorities said this modern and large mortuary has added a new dimension to the country's healthcare as 40 bodies can be kept at a time at the mortuary.

As dead bodies would be preserved in the mortuary under proper management, relatives of the deceased can take time for funeral.

The mortuary has been set up in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), putting emphasis on dignified and proper management of dead bodies, they said.

Lawmaker Prof Dr Md Habibe Millat, Vice-Chairman of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and Member of the Governing Board of IFRC, Treasurer of the society Lutfur Rahman Chowdhury Helal, Pablo Percelsi, Head of Delegation at ICRC Bangladesh and The Protection Coordinator, among others, were present at the programme.
