The muhurat of the movie ‘Bhalobasha Pritilata’, based on some incidents of Bengali revolutionary nationalist Pritilata Waddedar’s life, will be held tomorrow to mark her 88th death anniversary.
The programme will begin at 11:00am at the auditorium of Department of Films and Publications in the capital’s Kakrail area.Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud will grace the occasion as chief guest while Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Shireen Akhter will attend the programme as special guest with eminent writer Selina Hossain in the chair.
Produced and directed by Pradip Ghosh, the government-granted movie is the adoption of noted writer Selina Hossain’s novel of the same name ‘Bhalobasha Pritilata’. The film depicts the historical event of anti-British protests in Chittagong in 1932.
Artist Kanak Aditya is the costume designer while Bappa Mazumder is the music director of the film. The cast of the movie will be disclosed at the film’s muhurat.
Born in Chittagong in 1911, Pritilata was an anti-British revolutionary in the then East Bengal, now Bangladesh.
In early 1930s, Pritilata joined Mastarda Surya Sen’s armed resistance movement. Later in 1932, she successfully led a team to attack the Pahartali European Club in Chittagong. However, when trapped by the English on the fateful night, she committed suicide by swallowing Cyanide, ending her short endeavor in fighting for the country’s freedom at the age of 21.
