Fisheries minister’s mother dies

Majeda Begum, mother of Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim, died of old-age complications at a hospital in Khulna on Monday night. She was 82.

She left behind four sons, two daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn her death.

Her Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Tarabunia Eidgah ground at Najirpur Upazila in Pirojpur at 10:00am on Tuesday, said a press release of the ministry.

She was buried at a graveyard at Tarabunia village of Mativangnga union of Najirpur Upazila in Pirojpur on the day.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Majeda Begum.

In a message of condolence, the premier prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury also expressed shock at her death.

Road Transport and Bridges minister Obaidul Quader, Agriculture minister Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, Finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Home Affairs minister  Asaduzzaman Khan, Information minister Mohammad Hasan Mahmud, Liberation War Affairs minister AKM Mozammel Huq, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs minister Anisul Huq, Education Minister Dipu Moni, Foreign Affairs minister AK Abdul Momen, Planning minister MA Mannan, Textiles and Jute minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, Health and Family Welfare minister Zahid Maleque, Food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, Commerce minister Tipu Munshi, Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology minister Mustafa Jabbar along with other ministers and secretary of the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Rownak Mahmud also expressed profound shock at the death of Majeda Begum.
