‘Give more attention to research, innovation’

CHATTOGRAM: Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury has said the universities of the country should put more emphasis on research and innovation to materialise the vision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The deputy education minister was addressing a webinar titled ‘How Engineering Education Serves the Nation: Its Prospects and Reality’ organised by Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) Career Club on Sunday as the chief guest.

Addressing the event, Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury said engineers play an imperative role in physical and infrastructural development of a country. He also stressed for acquiring soft-skills to develop career and an increase in the duration of internship and industrial attachment for the students.

Besides, the state minister called upon the CUET alumni to develop an endowment fund for research activities at the university.

CUET Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Mohammad Rafiqul Alam, in his speech, said the CUET career club is working to strengthen the relationship between industry and academia.

CUET Career Club Chief Advisor Professor Dr Sajal Chandra Bonik of Mechanical Engineering Department presided over the session while Southern University Pro-VC Professor M Ali Ashraf, Bangladesh Power Development Board, Chattogram Chief Engineer Shamsul Alam, Confidence Cement Managing Director Jahir Uddin Ahmed and Education Engineering Department Executive Engineer Jalal Ahmed connected to it along with a number of educationists, alumni and students.
