Chinese Sinovac to start corona vaccine trial in Bangladesh soon

Chinese company Sinovac Biotech Ltd will soon start its corona vaccine trial in Bangladesh.

“We have allowed Sinovac to run trial of coronavirus vaccine. They will start work immediately. They will work along with icddr,b. The Sinovac will send letter to the ministry on Monday or Tuesday. The letter will mention information about the trial in details,” said Md Abdul Mannan, secretary of the Health Services Division under the health ministry.

Abdul Mannan came up with the information while talking to reporters after a meeting at the health ministry on Monday.

Replying to a question, he said nine companies of different countries of the world are working to develop vaccine for coronavirus.

“We are maintaining contact with five companies. We have taken preparation to bring the coronavirus vaccine instantly if the vaccine is innovated,” the health secretary said.

He said an inter-ministerial meeting under the leadership of cabinet secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam will be held on Tuesday and the meeting will discuss the current situation of coronavirus in the country, second wave of virus infection and preparation to this end.

“We are observing the corona situation. We have everything, including doctors, nurses, PPE and medicine, and have all preparations,” Abdul Mannan said.

He said people involved in health services will get priority in getting the coronavirus vaccine at free of cost and those who are working on the frontline will also get the vaccine.

The health secretary said the Covid-19 designated hospitals, which have been made non-Covid hospital, may be turned into Covid-19 hospital again if necessary in the next.
