Fire at Banani high-rise

A fire broke out in an office on the 14th floor of a 22-storey commercial building at Banani area in the capital on Sunday.

The fire originated at around 11:34am on the floor of Ahmed Tower on Kamal Ataturk Avenue, Fire Service and Civil Defence control room Duty Officer Ershad Hossain.

Eight firefighting units rushed to the spot. It took around 45 minutes to douse the flames, he added.

Panic gripped people of the surrounding areas as smoke billowed out of the floor.  

The cause of the fire and the extent of damage are still unclear. No casualties have been reported.

Ahmed Tower is located beside the FR Tower where 27 people were killed and more than 70 others injured in a deadly fire on March 27, 2019.
