Doctors of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, who are involved in treating coronavirus patients, on Saturday demanded safe accommodation facilities during the quarantine period.

They gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the hospital authorities to meet their demand.

They also besieged the rooms of the hospital’s deputy directors Uttam Kumar Barua, Dr. Mamun Morhsed, and corona Unit Coordinator Prof. Shahadat Hossain Ripon.

Around 65 doctors have submitted a memorandum to the hospital director during the protest.

However, the Directorate General of the Health Service said it has nothing to do with it as the ministry has officially canceled the quarantine facilities for doctors.

Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital’s Deputy Director Kumar Barua said that they have received the doctors’ demands and will convey it to the top authorities.

It may be mentioned that the Department of Health arranged a total of 19 hotels for the doctors and staff of six hospitals who are in the frontline of the fight against the coronavirus on April 12.

Later, on July 29, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has decided not to pay the hotel bills and hotel facilities of the health workers including the doctors engaged in the treatment of corona patients.
