Hindu devotees of the country celebrate Mahalaya on a limited scale today amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Since 2008, Gulshan-Banani Sharbajanin Puja Foundation has been observing the occasion in Banani playground amid festivity.

Thousands of devotees join the event every year. But this year they will organise the programme at the Foundation’s office beside the Banani playground.

They have discouraged large gathering. Instead, they have called upon the devotees to prefer television channels and social media platforms to watch their programmes. Dilip Dasgupta, president of Gulshan-Banani Sharbajanin Puja Foundation, said, “This year we will celebrate Mahalaya maintaining social distance. The programme will be aired live on our official Facebook page and YouTube channel and Channel i will broadcast it as well.”

Besides, Mahanagar Sarbojoneen Puja Committee and Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad will jointly organise a special Mahalaya programme at Dhakeshwari National Temple around 6:00 am. Channel 24 will broadcast the programme live from the temple.
