Students of Dhaka University often land themselves in trouble, as they do not have access to email address with the domain of the country’s renowned educational institution.

An academic or institutional email address is required to gain access to various research-related sites, including Research Gate. Students said that they can't create their accounts, as the university did not grant them any such opportunity.

Talking about the issue, Sultan Ahmed, a student of zoology department of the university, said: “Research Gate requires us to have an academic email address. That's the reason why it’s very important for us.” Nahid Hasan Sany, a third-year student, said Jahangirnagar University has already started providing institutional email accounts for its students.

"Expecting institutional email accounts from them is nothing but an illusory dream, as we still didn’t get our smart ID cards despite the fact that we paid Tk 600 to the university authorities," he added. The university only provides institutional email accounts for its teachers. Students said that elected student representatives of the former DUCSU promised in their electoral manifesto to sort out the problems. But their pledges remain unfulfilled even after the tenure of DUCSU expires, they said. Talking to The Daily Sun, DU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman said he will soon try to find a solution to the problem.
