A four-day director general-level conference between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) will begin in Dhaka today.

The conference, which was postponed two days ago, will now take place from September 16-19.

The formal meeting will start at 10:45am on September 17 at the conference room of BGB headquarters.

BGB Director General (DG) Major General Md Shafeenul Islam will lead a 13-member Bangladesh delegation while his BSF counterpart Rakesh Asthana will lead a six-member delegation at the conference.

The Bangladesh team comprises of BGB’s additional director general, staff officers of BGB and representatives from Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), home ministry, foreign affairs ministry, joint river commission and land record and survey department.

The Indian team comprises senior officials of BSF, home ministry and foreign affairs ministry of India.

The conference will conclude with the signing of a Joint Record of Discussion (JRD) on September 19. The border conference was postponed on September 13 as the BSF delegation failed to reach Dhaka due to a technical glitch in their aircraft.

Both sides have called it a routine meeting to discuss issues relating to the management of the 4096km long border between the two neighbours.

The biannual talks between BSF and BGB started in 1975. These are held on alternate occasions in Dhaka and Delhi.
