Bangladesh received another award from the United Nations (UN) for developing an e-commerce infrastructure for empowering rural economy through the EkShop platform.

Geneva-based World Summit Information Society (WSIS) recognized the EkShop platform of Aspire to Innovate (A2i) programme under the ICT Division as a champion in the business category for this year.

International Telecommunication Union (ITU) announced the award at a virtual ceremony on Wednesday night. ICT Division’s EkShop team head Rezwanul Haque Jami joined the session.

WSIS Forum is considered as the ‘most prestigious’ recognition in the technology sector provided by the UN agency, ITU.

ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak termed the achievement as a reflection of Digital Bangladesh vision by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Prime Minister's ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy to drive the country towards a knowledge-based economy.

EkShop team head Rezwanul Haque Jami said the WSIS forum has recognized the Bangladeshi innovation EkShop among 72 champion projects across the world.

EkShop is an e-commerce platform driven by the entrepreneurs of union digital centres across the country. Earlier, Bangladesh Computer Council received the award for developing blockchain-based electronic recruitment system.
