Disappointing day for Bangladesh

Bangladesh chess team conceded three defeats in three rounds of Division 2 Pool A in FIDE Online Chess Olympiad 2020 on the first day on Friday.

On the day’s first round, Bangladesh conceded defeat to Germany by 1.5-4.5 points. IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman beat GM Engel Luis and GM Reefat Bin-Sattar drew with GM Wagner Dennis. In the other matches, GM Zir Rahman conceded defeat to GM Daniel Fridman, WIM Rani Hamid to FM Lara Schulze, WIM Sharmin Sultana Shirin to WGM Filiz Osmanodja and WCM Walijah Ahmed to FM Jana Schneider.

On the day’s second round, Bangladesh conceded defeat to Belarus by 2-4 points. WFM Noshin Anjum beat WFM Aliaksandra Tarasenka, GM Niaz Murshed drew with GM Aleksej Aleksandrov and GM Reefat Bin-Sattar drew with GM Kirill Stupak. In the other matches, WFM Nazrana Khan Eva conceded defeat to IM Nastassia Ziaziulkina, WCM Samiha Sharmin Shimmi to Lantina Stetsko and CM Tahsin Tajwar Zia to IM Mihail Nikitenko.

On the day’s third round, Bangladesh conceded defeat to Belgium by 2.5-3.5 points GM Reefat Bin-Sattar beat Kastriot Memeti and WIM Rani Hamid beat Annelies Cuvelier.

In other matches, GM Niaz Murshed drew with Lennert Lenaerts while WIM Sharmin Sultana Shirin conceded defeat to Diana Musabayeva, IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman to De Waele Warrew and WFM Noshin Anjum to Tyani De Rycke.

Bangladesh will face Australia in the fourth, Bulgaria in the fifth and Kyrgyzstan in the sixth rounds on Saturday. The matches will kick-off at 2 pm (BST).
