Mahfuz Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station, whose video of taking bribe after using hand-sanitiser went viral on social media, has been withdrawn.

He has been transferred to Dhaka Tourist Police as per an order from the police headquarters on Thursday afternoon.

In the video, the OC was seen rubbing his hands with sanitiser and then accepting Tk 10,000 from some people in connection with filing a “false case”.       He was also seen keeping the money in his pocket while asking for more.

Then he gave directions on how to harass their opponents through the false case.

Lalmonirhat Superintendent of Police Abida Sultana said that a three-member investigation committee was looking into the incident.

The higher authorities will take departmental action on the basis of the investigation report, she added.

It was learned that Shukhi Begum, an alleged money-lender of Lalmonirhat town, along with her men, attacked and vandalised the house of Shahana Begum, a railway employee in the area.
