Corona death toll crosses 3,500

42 more die, 2,995 infected in 24 hours

The total death toll from coronavirus infection has crossed 3,500 in the country.

According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 42 more people died of coronavirus while 2,995 people contracted the deadly bug across the country in the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning.

Some 14,550 samples were collected and 14,751 tested at 86 labs during the period, said a press release of the DGHS signed by its additional director general (admin) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana.

At the same time, the number of recovery cases also has been increasing day by day in the country as the recovery rate now stands at over 57.44 percent.

Some 1,117 more patients have made recovery from the Covid-19 disease in last 24 hours raising the total number to 1,53,089.

The DGHS said some 2,995 new cases have been detected in the last 24 hours raising the total number of patients to 2,66,498 across the country. It said

20.46 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus while 1.32 percent patients died. The current case detection rate is 22.30 percent.

Among the 42 deceased, 33 were male and nine were female while one was between 21-30 years old, two within 31-40, four between 41-50, 11 within 51-60 and 24 were above 60 years old.

The health directorate said so far a total of 2,66,498 coronavirus infection cases have been detected against 13,02,739 samples tested at 86 labs across the country.

The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 while the first death was recorded on March 18 in Bangladesh.
