‘Human trafficker’ arrested

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-3) has arrested an alleged human trafficker along with 23 passports from Shahjahanpur in the capital on Monday.

The arrestee was identified as Mahfuzur Rahman, 50, said a press release of the elite force on Tuesday afternoon.

During primary interrogation, Mahfuz said that he with the help of one Shamim Ahmed, 30, who is now in India, used to send fortune seekers to various countries through illegal channels.

They collected Tk 600,000 to Tk 1.4 million from each fortune seeker in the name of sending them to Canada, Poland, Japan, Italy and Tunisia.

Mahfuz embezzled Tk 2.4 million from four persons, according to the press release.

The arrestee was wanted in two cases filed with Banani and Uttara East police stations.
