Janmashtami celebrated in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA: Janmashtami, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Hindus marking the birthday of Lord Krishna, was celebrated in all the seven upazilas in the district on Tuesday with due religious fervor and much enthusiasm, reports BSS.

According to Hindu belief, the teachings of Krishna are very important to establish peace and prosperity in the trouble-torn word. His preaching in Bhagvad Geeta is still the guiding light for the followers of the Hindu religion.

Marking the day, Hindu Religious Welfare TRUST (HRWT chalked out the elaborate programmes in cooperation with Bangladesh Puja Utjapan Parishad (BPUP), district unit.

On Tuesday morning, a discussion meeting, organized by HRWT, was held at the conference room of deputy commissioner here with DC Abdul Matin in the chair in association with the district administration.

Additional deputy commissioner (General) Alamgir Kabir Saikat, Mayor of Gaibandha Pourshava Adv. Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milan, Sadar UNO Prasun Kumar Chakrabartee, president of BPUP, district unit Dipak Kumar Paul, general secretary of BPUP, district unit, Ranajit Kumar Surja Bakshi, assistant director of HRWT Hamidul Haque and senior journalist Gobinda Lal Das addressed the meeting among others.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Abdul Matin said the communal harmony in the country is very excellent as the Hindus and the Muslims live here peacefully decades after decades.

The DC urged all to continue communal harmony to build a happy and prosperous Sonar Bangla as envisioned by Father of the Nation and architect of independence Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Later, a prayer of Lord Krishna was held.

A large number of Hindu religious leaders and devotees participated in the programmes.
