Sheikh Kamal remembered at missions abroad

The 71st birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was celebrated in a befitting manner at Bangladesh missions abroad on Wednesday, recalling his extraordinary contributions to the national life, ranging from sports and culture to politics and patriotism.

Reports reached in Dhaka from the Bangladesh embassies, high commissions and consulates across the world, including the embassy in Washington DC, Tokyo, Bangladesh permanent mission in the UN, Bangladesh consulate in New York, high commissions in Australia and Nigeria.

Bangladesh embassy in Washington DC organised a discussion on the life and work of Sheikh Kamal, screened a documentary on his life and cut a birthday cake and special prayers.

Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Mohammad Ziauddin and Minister (Press) Shamim Ahmad took part in the discussion. First Secretary and Head of Chancery Md Mahmudul Islam conducted the program.

Bangladesh High Commission in Nigeria organised a programme marking the day.

Md Shameem Ahsan, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Nigeria, in his speech highlighted the life of Sheikh Kamal. He said that Shaheed Kamal was not only a valiant freedom fighter but also the architect of modern sports in Bangladesh and a cultural personality.
