BR staff transport passengers illegally

A section of employees of Bangladesh Railways (BR) are carrying passengers without ticket violating the rule in this regard.

In a letter on Thursday, BR’s Pakshi Division brought the irregularities under the notice of the Ministry of Railways.

Pakshi Divisional Commercial Manager Fuad Hossain Ananda told daily sun that staffs of the railway are involved in transporting passengers illegally.

“We have written a letter to the ministry to take action against those involved in transporting passengers illegally,” he said.

The letter mentioned the names of 14 employees involved in the irregularities. They are driver of power car M Wahidul Islam, air-conditioned operator M Niamul Mawla, electrician M Abdul Jalil Sarkar, pay-operator Matiur Rahman, sub-inspector Asaduzzaman, attendants Matiar Rahman, Abdul Malek, Abdul Khaleq, Mizanur Rahman, Saiful Islam, Rashed, Shahnewaz, Biplab Chandra Roy and Abinta Bhushan.

Earlier on August 5, block checking drives were conducted at three trains at Jaipurhat station.

The Pakshi Division also drew attention of the ministry to take action against the conductors, guards and attendants for non-cooperation during the drives.  In the drives at Jaipurhat station, 55 people were fined a total of Tk31200 and they were forced to get down from the train. In the drives at Ishwardi and Santahar stations, 105 people were fined Tk50,400 and they were forced to get down from the train.
