The government has taken effective steps to reform the jute sector considering the demand of the international market, said Textile and Jute Secretary Lokman Hossain Mia.

“The reform process was underway in the jute sector to meet the international market…our country was working to diversify the use of environmental-friendly jute products, increase the production and marketing by producing charcoal from jute sticks, composite jute textiles, jute leaf drinks, jute geo-textiles and polythene alternative ‘golden bags’,” he said, reports BSS.

He said this while meeting with newly appointed Ambassador to Uzbekistan Md Jahangir Alam at the conference room of the Ministry here, said a release.

He said that there is a growing global interest and consensus on the use of natural fibers as an alternative to the environmental catastrophe caused by the overuse of polythene and plastics.
