A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion-3 (RAB) has sentenced a fake doctor to two years’ imprisonment and also fined him Tk 200,000.

Shawkat Hossain Sumon, the fake doctor, is also the chairman of SHS Health Care Hospital and Digital Diagnostic Centre in the capital’s Demra area. He was administering treatment for skin and sex diseases.

Besides, two staffers of the hospital — Ashim Mandal and Kakon Mia – were fined Tk 100,000 and Tk 500,000 respectively. The hospital was sealed off.

The mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Palash Kumar Bashu raided the hospital on Sunday night, which continued until Monday.

Palash Kumar said Sumon had been providing treatment as a specialist for the last three years. He also took part in a number of talk shows as a specialist.

He said the licence of the hospital expired one year ago and it was not renewed.

Sumon and the two staffers also provided fake test reports on various diseases, he added.

The RAB found unapproved vaccines, expired medicines and banned drug for sexual stimulation.

The executive magistrate said 20 patients were present at the hospital to receive treatment from Sumon.
