Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir demanded the resignation of Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque in connection with the Regent Hospital scam.

“Now a fight has started between the health minister and the health directorate. The health directorate is saying that the ministry asked it to allow regent hospital to carry out coronavirus test. Then who is responsible? Zahid Maleque should resign his post,” he said.

The BNP leader made the statement while addressing a virtual inaugural function of health services for Covid-19 patients, arranged by Ziaur Rahman Foundation, from his Uttara residence in the capital on Sunday.

He also demanded to book the health minister in connection with ‘fake coronavirus test report scam’.

Mirza Fakhrul alleged that the ruling Awami League men and their nearest persons are involved in corruption over coronavirus test. “The entire health system of the country has collapsed. Huge plundering is going on in the sector,” he added.

The BNP secretary general called upon the party men to remain united and unite the country’s people against ‘plundering of Awami League’.

“Now the Awami League men are plundering and taking away cutting pocket of people. We want to get rid of this situation and to save the people,” he said.
