Thirty-seven people died of coronavirus while 2,949 new cases of infection were detected in the country in the last 24 hours till Friday morning.
“A total of 1,78,443 coronavirus infected patients have been detected in the country and 2,275 of them died,” said Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (admin) of DGHS.She came up with the statement while speaking at a regular health bulletin from the headquarters of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in Mohakhali of the capital.
A total of 86,406 coronavirus infected patients have made recovery across the country, including in Dhaka, and the recovery rate is 48.42 percent, the DGHS official said.
She said 37 people died of coronavirus while 2,949 new cases of infection were detected in the last 24 hours till 8:00am on Friday. The current case detection rate is 21.86 percent. Among the deceased, Dr Nasima said 29 were male and eight were female while 12 were from Dhaka, 17 from Chattogram, two from Rajshahi, two from Sylhet, one from Barishal, one from Mymensingh and two others were from Rangpur division.
Of them, one was between 21-30 years old, one between 31-40, seven within 41-50, nine between 51-60, 15 between 61-70 and four were within 71-80 years old, she also said.
The DGHS official said 1,862 more Covid-19 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours.
Bangladesh registered the first Covid-19 infections on March 8 and the first death on March 18.The country is now in the 18th week and passed 115th days of infections on Friday.
Dr Nasima said the total infection rate so far stands at 19.43 percent and the death rate is 1.27 percent.
A total of 893 people were put under isolation throughout the country in the last 24 hours.
She said some 14,377 samples were collected and 13,488 tested at 77 labs across the country, including in Dhaka, in the last 24 hours. A total of 9,18,272 samples have so far been tested.
