A Dhaka court on Thursday placed Mosaddek Hanif Swad, owner of ‘Mayur-2’ launch, on a three-day remand for interrogation in a case filed over Buriganga launch capsize that claimed 34 lives on June 29.

Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Monika Khan passed the order when Sub-Inspector of Sadarghat River Police Station Shahidul Islam, also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court with seven-day remand prayer.

Opposing remand petition, defence lawyers submitted bail petition for the accused. But, the court rejected the bail petition after hearing.

Earlier, a team of River Police arrested the owner of ‘Mayur-2’ launch from a house in the capital’s Sobhanbagh area in the early hours of Thursday morning.
