38 pvt instts get testing permit

The government has already given approval to 21 private hospitals and 17 diagnostic centres to conduct the coronavirus tests.

Of the 21 hospitals, 19 are now running tests, Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (admin) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a regular online health bulletin on Thursday.

“Care Medical College and Hospital and Shahabuddin Medical College Hospital are not doing coronavirus tests.”

On the other hand, 12 diagnostics centers are now carrying out the tests, the DGHS official said, adding that Thyrocare Bangladesh Limited, Alok Health Care, Stems Health Care, Epic Health Care and Authentic Healthcare are not doing the test at the moment.

Besides, 34 government laboratories, five research institutes and six public universities are carrying out coronavirus tests around the country, according to DGHS.

“The private hospitals and diagnostics centres will charge Tk 3,500 for each test. If they collect sample from home, they can take Tk 1,000 additionally,” she said.

The DGHS official said a total of 15,632 tests were done in 76 labs all over the country in the last 24 hours until 8:00 am on Thursday. “A total of 904,784 samples have so far been tested across the country,” Dr Nasima said.
